Sophia turns 4!!!

Wednesday was Sophia’s birthday!  We celebrated by having a dress up tea party at our house.  All of the little girls had so much fun getting all dolled up in fancy dresses, princess shoes, hats, boas, gloves and lots of jewelry!  They all sat at our dining table and ate pb&j finger sandwiches, ham and cheese finger sandwiches, cheese cubes, fruit and the best strawberry cupcakes I have ever put in my mouth!  The party ended with Sophia sitting in time out, so all in all it was a success!

Sophia is definitely a big girl now.  She makes us smile all the time and is a joy to be around most of the time.  She is growing more independent every day and still loves to think that she is Lola’s mommy.  She remembers everything about anything that she has ever seen or heard.  She is still a rule follower and is quick to point out when anyone does something they are not suppose to do.  Sophia NEVER says a word to anyone that she does not know, no matter how hard they try to be her friend.  The only thing she ever gets in trouble for is her smart mouth, which is a daily battle.  I am so glad that God surprised us with Sophia for she is such a blessing!

This morning we went for Sophia’s 4 year check-up and her doctor confirmed what I had already suspected.  We were referred to an ENT to have her tonsils taken out.  For the past several months Sophia’s sleeping habits have gone from bad to worst and she started snoring.  Since I had to have my tonsils taken out as a child for similar reasons I knew that this would be coming.  Her left tonsil is way more enlarged than her right and she failed her hearing test on the left ear.  The pediatrician said that it would be best to get this over with as soon as possible to help her sleeping and hearing, and so that she would be recovered before pre-school starts in the Fall.  Please keep her in your prayers because if you know her, you know that this will be very traumatic for our little drama queen!

Here are pictures from her big day and her very massive birthday present…

Until next time…peace out!

Keith and I were so very lucky to get a 4 day vacation, by ourselves, to Las Vegas!  Neither of us had been before and we both LOVED it!  You cannot describe it unless you have been there, so if you haven’t been there, go there.  Anyway, here is how our vacation started. (not so good, if you can’t tell my tone)

So I have this awesome client who works for Southwest and so she trades me non-rev plane tickets for free hair.  Great deal.  Anyway, how these non-rev ticks work is that as long as there are left over seats on any plane, we can walk right on them.  If the plane is full, we are out of luck.  I have used these tickets several times and never had a problem (oh, except that one time I got stuck in Tulsa over night and cried in hopes that the guy behind the counter would give me someone elses seat.  He didn’t.  That’s another story for another time).  So I check the flight that we wanted a couple days prior to departure and there were like 50 empty seats.

We arrive at the airport at 5:30 am, plane leaves at 6:40 am.  You all know how Southwest works, so the plan was to fly to El Paso, change flights and then fly to Vegas.  We send our baggage through, make it through security and head to the counter to get our boarding passes.  This is when all things went to hell.

So the lady behind the counter not so nicely informs us that 79, yes I said 79, non-revs have shown up for this flight to Vegas.  What the crap?  Where did all these people come from and how did they all get these free plane tickets?  Plus, it is the butt crack of dawn and these people should be hitting snooze right now.  Anyway, the not-so-nice lady was kind enough to tell us that if we did get on this flight, it would be a race to see who got on the next flight in El Paso.  Game on.  Keith tells me to forget about sitting next to him and just get the closest seats.  Got it.  We get on and I get stuck between a bitchy business woman that is put out that she has a job (hello, recession?), and a smelly old guy that all but laid his head on my shoulder and drooled.  All while Keith gets next to this cool guy and they talk and laugh and paint each others nails the whole way there.  I just tried to concentrate on my sudoku.

Plane lands, we run as fast as we can to the counter right next to the one we just got off by, and were the first in line.  Yes, we are so in!  Not so much.  Welcome the second bitchy airline employee.

Rude airline lady: “Oh, you must be our non-revs.  We are just going to send you to Phoenix since you are not an actual employee, and you can try to catch a flight out of there.  You should never try and catch a connecting flight at a small airport.  Good luck.”

Great.  So we get back on the same plane we were just on to head to Phoenix.  We go with the same strategy that we had the first go around since it worked so well.  This time I sit next to a cute girl headed to San Jose who works in the same town I do in the same industry.  Small world.  On the other side of me (yes, I got stuck in the middle again) was a nice dude that had to show me 101 pictures of his 4 kids and talk about all the funny things his 4 year old says.  Awesome.  I’m on vacation, dude, I don’t want to talk about your bratty 4 year old, or any child for that matter.

Arrive in Phoenix, get off the plane, wait for like 3 minutes for Keith and he is nowhere to be found.  Turn on my phone, it’s Keith calling and he is halfway across the airport trying to catch the next flight out to Vegas that leaves in 15 minutes.  Thanks babe for waiting on me.  Now you can picture me running across the busiest airport I have ever been in, wearing a maxi dress.  This is my worst nightmare…running, and running in a long dress.  Finally get to the counter and meet bitchy airline employee #3.  She informs us that there are only 8 open seats on the next flight and that there are still people that have not checked in.  We wait, we wait, people start boarding, we wait, we wait, more people board.  Bitchy #3 finally comes over the speaker and announces our name.  Alleluia!

At this point the plane is so full that we have no choice but to sit separately so I squeeze between a nice looking business lady (who snores the whole time) and a nice looking casual guy who is already drinking at 9 am.  He asks me some random question and I notice that he has a thick accent.  I ask him where he is from and he says Baghdad.  Then there was a long awkward pause while I gathered my thoughts and remembered to love everyone like Jesus loves us and that just because of 9/11 I shouldn’t always assume the worst, and that he was definitely not going to take over the plane and kill us all.  I reply, “Oh, how long have you lived in the States?”  He then tells me that he has been here for 21 years, he owns a liquor store, is married to the most beautiful lady, has a teenage daughter, he flies to Vegas at least once a week to gamble and then tells me all the stuff that we had to do while we were there.  Nice guy.

So we finally get there, check in to our AMAZING hotel, and hit the streets walking.  I have never walked so much in my life.  There is just so much to see there and so much shopping to do that we never stopped.  We made the mistake of eating at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill the first night. It was so incredible that none of the other restaurants even came close to being as good.  When we go back in October, we will eat there every night.

So not to bore you with all the details of our trip I will drop some celebrity names that I saw.

Mario Lopez, Audrina Partridge, Jeana (from The Real Housewives of OC), Pete Rose, Ken Stabler, some guy from Heroes and the spiky haired famous chef on food network.

We made it back in one piece, the girls were happy to see us and were not completely bratty from their weekend with Honey and we cannot wait to go back!  We did not take as many pictures as we would have liked b/c it was too big of a pain to lug around our professional camera but here are a few that we got…

This is the long dress I had to run in.

The Homestead

This past Sunday we traveled to Mulberry, Texas to go to my Great Aunt’s 80th Birthday party.  Mulberry is pretty much in the middle of nowhere and almost the entire population consists of my Pepaw’s relatives.  My Pepaw was one of 14 children who grew up during the depression and during the latter part of his childhood he was raised in Mulberry in a house that would be considered modest in today’s society.  Picture a two story wooden white house with a wrap around porch.  The inside looks like a typical house built in the early 1900’s where the wood floors squeak, each room pours into another, there is only one tiny bathroom and an open room upstairs that probably contained 5 or 6 double beds at the time.

What makes this house so special is that my Pepaw’s sisters have slowly renovated the house into a beautiful “bed and breakfast”.  I use quotations because I don’t think anyone other than family has ever spent the night there but it could be pictured in a Home and Garden magazine none the less.  Every year we travel to The Homestead for a family reunion and there is always some sort of  a family bonding activity whether it be a tea party for the children, hay rides with singing or planting new trees on the acreage, there is something so simple and serene about being there.  The trees are beautiful, the air smells clean, the crickets are chirping, birds are singing and mosquitoes are biting (I got brutally attacked by them).

It is so hard to imagine what it would be like growing up in the middle of nowhere and living with 15 other people with no central heat or air.  It is hard to imagine what it was like working from sun up till sun down and barely scraping by.  It is hard to imagine how 2 people raised that many kids that all turned out to be decent human beings, but they did it, and that is why we gather there year after year to celebrate our family tree.

We recently bought a Canon 50D camera and even though we barely know how to turn it on it takes such great pictures.  We were unable to get any good pictures of The Homestead due to about 100 people wondering around it, but we got some great family pics that we would like to share.

On another note, Keith and I leave for vacation this weekend.  Although I am so excited about getting away and traveling to a new place my anxieties are at their peak.  I can’t help but worry about our plane crashing, something happening to our kids while we are gone, Keith and I getting kidnapped etc.  It didn’t help that we had to revise our will last night and it asks you questions like “if you are in a coma, how long do you want your loved ones to wait to pull the plug?”  I don’t want to think about stuff like that, I want to live to be 100 and then die peacefully in my sleep.

Because everyone close to me (and all of my loving clients) know all about my anxiety problems, they all offer up what they think are helpful solutions to my problem.  Everything they say makes perfect sense but nothing has ever hit home with me until a client said this to me last week, “God does not give you a spirit of fear.  If He wants you to trust completely in Him then who is giving you this spirit of fear?  The enemy.”  Why something so simple all of the sudden made my light bulb go off I do not know.  Actually I do know, God is trying to tell me something.  We are supposed to trust in Him, we are supposed listen to Him, we are supposed to have a peace that we are not in control of anything and He is in control of everything.  We can try our entire lives to control our lives and control our future, but it is ultimately all in His hands.

I know that I am still going to worry about things and have anxiety attacks here and there, but I also know that God has a plan for me and that I may live to be 100, or I may not live another hour, but either way I need to stop determining my own paths and just walk along His.

My next post will be pictures of our vacation!  Say a little prayer for our safety and my Mom’s sanity while she tries to manage our two hooligans.

Peace Out.

This and that

So now that I have a Facebook this whole blogging thing kind of gets pushed to the side.  But, since I have a handful of loyal followers that do not have fb I am going to try and be more consistent.

We are all so ready for summer.  Sophia only has 2 more weeks of Mothers Day Out, then swim lessons start, then Keith turns 35, then Keith and I go to Las Vegas, then we have Sophia’s 4th birthday party, then our 6th anniversary, then family vacation to Sea World and Padre, then I get to cut back to 3 days a week of work, then Sophia starts Pre-K, Lola starts MDO, and summer will be over.  In between all of that we plan to make a trip to the zoo, spend lots of time at the pool, make a trip or two to the lake (hint hint Matt & Randa), and hopefully sell our house!

Keith and I are very ready for our Vegas trip.  Neither of us have ever been and we are so looking forward to a little r & r without kids.  Hopefully they will not ruin their chances of ever having an extended stay at Honey & Poppy’s again.  We finalized all of our reservations this week and our itinerary goes something like this…

Leave Dallas at 6:30 am on a Friday and arrive in Vegas at 8:30.  Check in to The Palazzo.  Shop, shop, tour some hotels, shop, eat lunch, shop, tour some more hotels, shop, and then get ready for dinner at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill.  Keith is most excited about dinner at Mesa Grill b/c he has a man crush on Bobby Flay (and John Mayer, so maybe we will see one of them?).

Saturday I plan on lounging by this pool for most of the day and then sushi dinner at Koi.

Sunday is undecided, but we are eating dinner at Olives while we watch the water fountains dance to music, and then we are seeing Cirque Du Soleil O at The Bellagio.

Monday, more poolside relaxation until we come home late that night.

Are you jealous?

Mother’s Day turned out to be so much fun.  First, remember my last post about how Keith did not get my email about the specific gift I wanted?  Well, turns out, he got it and actually surprised me for once.  He asked me to make a public apology for dogging him on my last post.  Sorry.  Anyway, my Mom was at my sister’s house in Arkansas so we ended up going with our friends, Matt and Randa, to their family lake house for the day.  The kids had so much fun fishing, riding jet skis and playing in the water and I had fun watching them and eating way too much good food!  We cannot wait to go back!

Until next time…

This picture cracks me up.  One day I was on the computer when Sophia walks in, looking like this and says, “Mommy, I look just like Jason Castro!”  That girl loves her some Jason Castro!

Today I had a Mothers Day lunch at Sophia’s school.  They have one every year, but this year Sophia’s teachers outdid themselves.  When all the Moms walked in our kids met us at the door and walked us to our seats.  The room was dimly lit and there was Italian music playing.  We ate spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and salad.  Then there was Italian cream cake for dessert.  The tables were decorated with our childrens artwork and for our gift, we received a cookbook that all the kids in Sophia’s class contributed to.  Every child had their own page with their favorite recipe and some random information about themselves that they all answered on their own.  Here is what Sophia’s said…

Mommy’s mac-n-cheese by Sophia Green

instructions:

-put it in the microwave on number 5

-just put cheese on it

-split it in half with a knife for me and Lola

-put it in little holes, but usually Lola scrubs it all in her hair and mommy says, “no! that is nasty”!

my age: 3

my favorite food: twizzlers

my mommy smells like: roses  (thank goodness she said this and not a dog like 2 other kids put!)

my mommy’s favorite color: red

my mommy’s favorite flower: purple flowers

what I would like to tell my mommy: I am ready to go!

I love Mothers Day!  Every year Keith makes it really special and always gets me a really neat gift.  This year I emailed him on March 29th (to be exact) and gave him the link to the exact present that I wanted.  So yesterday Keith informed me that he had to go to the mall today after work to get my present.  I was like, “why do you have to go to the mall?  I told you what I wanted weeks ago and it can only be received in the mail.”  Keith then says, “what are you talking about, you never told me what you wanted.”  I then say, “oh yes sir, I sent you an email with all the information over a month ago.”  Keith, “oh, it must have gone to my spam.”  I’m glad all of your wife’s emails go straight to spam!  Whatever.

Anyway, here are some pics from my luncheon.  Happy Mothers Day!

Easter

Life at the Green house has been fast lately.  I am working like a dog, Keith is working like a dog, Sophia is wrapping up school and Awanas, and Lola never stops.  We finally put our house on the market and actually got an offer on it within the first week, but we could not come to an agreement on price.  Not selling the house quickly is actually quite fine with me considering that we do not have time to look for another house, haven’t had time to do all of our pre-qualifying loan stuff, pack all of our junk, and move to another house at this time.  We are planning 3 trips this summer and trying to come up with fun activities to do with the girls.  Sophia keeps saying that we are going camping this summer and I keep reminding her that we are not camping kind of people.

Since Keith and I are going to Vegas for his birthday in early June we decided that we are not bikini ready so we better start working on our fitness.  We are going on 2 weeks of P90X and quite frankly, I am discouraged.  I feel fatter since I started than I have in a long time.  I am probably going to have to break down and stop eating sweets soon, but I really don’t want to have to do that.  Pray for my baby belly to just melt away before I have to let chocolate go.

Sophia is growing up way too fast.  Her 4th birthday is quickly approaching and she thinks that we are going to host a party for her at Build a Bear along with about 20 friends.  Don’t you just love how kids have absolutely no concept of money!  She continues to make us laugh with her quick comebacks and dramatic tendencies.  She has already had her mouth washed out with soap a few times and still loves to over accessorize.  She remembers everything and is always helpful in reminding me where I left things around the house.  Most of her time is spent in teacher mode where she constantly calls Keith and I by our first names and tells us what to do.  We just go with it and hope that this particular phase passes quickly!

Lola is a handful right now.  She has her own agenda at all times and you can never take your eyes off of her.  She all of the sudden figured out how to talk and I can understand most things that she says or asks for.  If there is any member of our family missing at any time she runs around saying “where mommy? where daddy? where fia?”.  She goes in for her 18 month checkup this Tues. and I am anxious to see how big she is because she is still very stout.  We had to spend $75 on 2 pairs of summer sandals because her fat, flat feet will not fit in to Payless or Target shoes.  Trust me, I tried every single pair, even the ugly ones.  We now have to shop at Stride Rite which makes my stomach turn to spend that kind of money on a 1 year old but what do you do?  Let her go barefoot?  Maybe that is not a bad idea?

Here are a few of the only Easter pics we got from Sophia’s egg hunt at school, family pics in our Sunday best on Saturday, and Easter morning.  If you were wondering that is a chicken strip that the girls are holding for their pictures, yes Lola is supposed to have a bow in her hair and the last pic is just because I think it is really funny!  Hope your holiday was great and I will try and be a better blogger in the future!

We sure did let Sophia wear this to dinner last night…

img_3866 img_38621

but it was only to Taco Cabana, so who cares, right?

What is up with my girls loving to wear lots of things that don’t remotely go together?

img_3875 img_3876

If you can’t tell, she is wearing her pajama top, summer shorts, Sophia’s panties, one of my socks, my old purse and her lovely bandage that I already had to redo last night b/c she stuck the first one in Sophia’s bath!

I have said it 100 times, and today it came true.  Lola had her 1st visit to the ER.  This morning I was getting ready for work and Lola was in the bathroom with me.  I had just unplugged my curling iron and was putting on my deodorant when Lola pulled the cord of the curling iron, the curling iron was dangling in front of her, and before I could grab it she did instead.  Only she grabbed the hot end with her left hand.  In true Lola fashion she whined for about 30 seconds and then seemed fine.  Her hand was a little pink so I ran it under cool water and that is when the screaming began.  I have never heard a cry like this in all my 3 1/2 years of being a Mom.  Not only was she screaming, but her hand was swelling by the second.  I was still relatively calm, I gave her some Motrin and continued to blow on the wound (this seemed to calm her a little).  Before leaving for work I called my Mom to tell her what happened and “Miss never freaks out herself” was freaking.  She said that we should take her to the ER because burns in children that swell up like that have a big potential for infection.  So then I freaked out, told her to get her tush over to the house to watch Soaps, and we headed for Childrens.

The drive there was horrible.  I sat in the back with her and she was crying and looking into my eyes screaming “Mommy” (like why aren’t you fixing my boo boo?).  Then I started crying because I felt so helpless and hated seeing her in so much pain.  We made it there in one piece.  (a miracle in and of itself considering the way Keith was driving)  By the time we got there the Motrin had kicked in and Lola was a champ.  Our nurse loaded her up with graham crackers and juice while 2 different Doctors examined the damage, and Lola never made a whimper.  They determined that since her hand was already blistering that we would have to keep it bandaged for a week with ointment and watch very closely for infection.

They sent her home looking like a boxing champ with a dog tag around her ankle and all is good in the world again!  Her little wound sure did not stop her from helping us do yard work…

Also, last week we traveled to Little Rock to visit my sister while my brother-in-law, who is a youth minister, had their first Disciple Now Weekend.  We had a lot of fun playing with baby Jack and just relaxing.  On Saturday the church turned their gym into a huge bounce house ring with all these different stations of bounce jousting, sumo wrestling, and then there was this huge bounce house that was as long as the gym that they were holding races through.  Two people start at one end, pound their way through all these obstacles, climb up a bounce rock wall, and then slide down to the finish.  Well apparently I thought that I am still in high school and that a race like this was a piece of cake for someone in as good of shape as I am.  (my blog, my exaggerations)  So I manage to get through a few times, only winning once, and call it a day.  Well the next day I felt like I had been run over by and 18 wheeler.  Why am I aging so fast?  It was ridiculous and I will never be doing anything stupid like that again!

Here are a few pics at our attempt to get a cousins shot before we left…

So apparently I am the only person that watches The Bachelor, but I am going to rant about it anyway.  Last night was the season finale along with more drama than I have seen in however many seasons I have been watching.  I had said before that I love this guy, and now I would like to retract my statement.  For those of you who do not follow, here is a quick recap of what happened…

The Bachelor’s name is Jason and he is this completely lovable guy with a little boy who seems to be so real and guinuine.  His two final “contestants” are Molly (who apparently has the most intoxicating eyes he has ever seen) and Melissa (girl next door from Dallas who loves kids).  So the whole season he has been “torn” between these two love interests.  Basically it comes down to the fact that he is infatuated with Molly because she is some career driven, take charge, free spirited wildcard.  But, he loves Melissa because she would be his perfect little submissive wife that would take good care of his little boy and tell Jason how wonderful he is until the day he dies.

So Molly steps out of the car first, which we all know means she is getting the boot.  He dumps her and she says she doesn’t understand and that he is making a huge mistake.  Jason then sends her off and cries like a big baby for at least 5  minutes.  It was so uncomfortable.  I was like Jason, pull yourself together and be a man about it.  Who wants to be with a big crybaby?

Then Melissa comes out and they have this completely sweet engagement and the birds start chirping again.  It was really sweet, I even shed a little tear.  I thought these two would live happily ever after and would end up being the new Ryan and Trista.

Not so much.  Then the show goes to the After the Rose Ceremony but there is no audience.  Jason comes out first and basically says that he thought he loved Melissa and that they had been trying  to make it work, but that he had been waiting to dump her on national tv and then ask Molly for another chance because he just couldn’t deny his love for her anymore.  WHAT A JERK.  I HATE THIS GUY.  What kind of jerk face would wait until the After the Rose Ceremony to break up with his fiance and then immediately ask the girl he dumped to give it a go?

Melissa comes out and the tension is so high my armpits start sweating.  He basically tells her that it is not working and that he tried with everything he had to give them a chance (how sweet of you since you did in fact PROPOSE!).  If they had of not been on tv, she would have knocked his lights out.  She only used one choice word out of the 50 that I was saying in my head and then gave him the ring back and left.  I so hope this girl finds someone.  She is so sweet and classy, and deserves so much more.  I am going to get a Team Melissa shirt made this week.

So then Molly comes out and is like “I have so many unanswered questions, and I still love Jason, and I wish every night that I wake up and he comes back to me, and I want him to stare in to my enchanting green eyes and get lost again.”  Barf.  Jason comes out and tells her that he dumped Melissa and that he can’t stop thinking about her, and would she please give him another shot?  She acts totally surprised and then they start making out and they leave a new happy family.

Can you believe that?  I was so uncomfortable, my stomach was turning.  Who does that?  Who asks someone to marry him the same day he breaks up with another chick.  Then turns around a couple of months later after the newness wears off and changes his mind and it all works out for him.  How stupid is Molly for taking him back with the snap of his finger?  At least act a little not so desperate on tv and then talk about it afterward.

See, the problem really lies within me.  I get so involved with these stupid reality shows that it gets personal and then I am always disappointed in the end.  So here is my official Bachelor resignation.  (unless of course Jillian is the next Bachelorette).  That is that.  I will be checking the media everyday anticipating their breakup.  That’s all I got.

Need a cake?

This weekend I hosted a baby shower for my friend Ashley.  There is a lady that works with Keith that makes cakes on the side and so I thought I would give her a try.  It is so hard to find someone to make a cake that is not only pretty, but that tastes good as well.  Anyway, I sent her a napkin that I was using and gave her creative freedom with the cake and this is what she came up with…

img_3624

Is that not incredible?  And, it tasted so good too.  If you live in the Dallas area and need any kind of cake please contact Michelle @ mcakesbydesign.cakeportfolio.com

On another note.  Lola is a climber.  Yesterday I found her standing on our kitchen table, which is one of those tall tables by the way.  Today she figured out how to move her chair around to get things off of counters that she wants to get in to.  Shortly after this pic was taken she pulled the tab on the front of the water bottle next to her and let water pour out all over her and the floor.  Isn’t that funny?  Not really.  I wonder if the zoo would take her off my hands?

I am seriously thinking about starting my P90X videos on March 1st.  Since I have had them for like 6 months and have only managed to try 3 videos, I think I should get serious.  So, I am thinking about blogging about my week to week experience to stay motivated so that all 3 of you who read my blog can hold me accountable.  I MIGHT even post my before pictures, but don’t hold your breath.  I have to decide how serious I am before I get all carried away and show all my junk on the world wide web.  I’ll keep you posted.  Peace out.
