I have said it 100 times, and today it came true. Lola had her 1st visit to the ER. This morning I was getting ready for work and Lola was in the bathroom with me. I had just unplugged my curling iron and was putting on my deodorant when Lola pulled the cord of the curling iron, the curling iron was dangling in front of her, and before I could grab it she did instead. Only she grabbed the hot end with her left hand. In true Lola fashion she whined for about 30 seconds and then seemed fine. Her hand was a little pink so I ran it under cool water and that is when the screaming began. I have never heard a cry like this in all my 3 1/2 years of being a Mom. Not only was she screaming, but her hand was swelling by the second. I was still relatively calm, I gave her some Motrin and continued to blow on the wound (this seemed to calm her a little). Before leaving for work I called my Mom to tell her what happened and “Miss never freaks out herself” was freaking. She said that we should take her to the ER because burns in children that swell up like that have a big potential for infection. So then I freaked out, told her to get her tush over to the house to watch Soaps, and we headed for Childrens.
The drive there was horrible. I sat in the back with her and she was crying and looking into my eyes screaming “Mommy” (like why aren’t you fixing my boo boo?). Then I started crying because I felt so helpless and hated seeing her in so much pain. We made it there in one piece. (a miracle in and of itself considering the way Keith was driving) By the time we got there the Motrin had kicked in and Lola was a champ. Our nurse loaded her up with graham crackers and juice while 2 different Doctors examined the damage, and Lola never made a whimper. They determined that since her hand was already blistering that we would have to keep it bandaged for a week with ointment and watch very closely for infection.
They sent her home looking like a boxing champ with a dog tag around her ankle and all is good in the world again! Her little wound sure did not stop her from helping us do yard work…

like picking my weeds…

and watering my weeds…

and eating ice cream from the ice cream man…

of course she did have a little help from big Sis…

I think she’s going to be okay!

Also, last week we traveled to Little Rock to visit my sister while my brother-in-law, who is a youth minister, had their first Disciple Now Weekend. We had a lot of fun playing with baby Jack and just relaxing. On Saturday the church turned their gym into a huge bounce house ring with all these different stations of bounce jousting, sumo wrestling, and then there was this huge bounce house that was as long as the gym that they were holding races through. Two people start at one end, pound their way through all these obstacles, climb up a bounce rock wall, and then slide down to the finish. Well apparently I thought that I am still in high school and that a race like this was a piece of cake for someone in as good of shape as I am. (my blog, my exaggerations) So I manage to get through a few times, only winning once, and call it a day. Well the next day I felt like I had been run over by and 18 wheeler. Why am I aging so fast? It was ridiculous and I will never be doing anything stupid like that again!
Here are a few pics at our attempt to get a cousins shot before we left…

I’m so glad Lola is okay. There is nothing worse than watching your babies scream in pain. What a little trooper though!
